Cataract Surgery


Due to the aging process, the lens in the eye can become clouded, causing a condition known as a cataract. Cataracts generally occur after the age of 60 but in many cases, can occur earlier as well.

Advanced cataract surgery is the optimal solution for this condition. Also known as phaco-emulsification, this cataract removal procedure is ultrasound-based and requires no stitches. Cataract surgery is performed by Dr. Orazio L. Giliberti, FACS at a state-of-the-art, ophthalmic ambulatory surgical center (ASC).

Cataract surgery is very successful in restoring vision. It is among the most commonly performed surgical procedures in the United States with over 1.5 million cataract surgeries taking place each year. Over 90% of those who undergo cataract surgery regain excellent vision, somewhere between 20/20 and 20/40. Patients can return to normal working activities within a couple days after surgery.

During the procedure, Dr. Orazio L. Giliberti, FACS will remove your clouded lens, and in most cases replace it with a clear, artificial intraocular lens (IOL). These premium lenses are being developed to make the procedure less complicated for the physician and the lens more helpful to patients.
