Dr. Giliberti performs several laser vision correction procedures at the center depending upon your prescription, shape and map of your eye, age, and occupational factors: ![]() ![]() LASIK, which stands for Laser Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis, is a procedure that makes a tiny superficial flap on the surface of the eye (cornea) and treats the inner tissue of the eye with a laser beam. The advantages of this procedure are rapid recovery and minimal discomfort. CUSTOM LASIK is performed using advanced Wavescan diagnostic technology that makes a computerized map of the eye and communicates this pattern to the excimer laser which develops a customized treatment pattern that is unique to your eye. Wavescan is 25 times more precise compared to conventional diagnostic technology. According to FDA data, nearly 100% of patients were able to attain vision good enough to pass a driver’s license test and 98% obtained 20/20 vision following Custom LASIK. Over 70% obtained better than 20/20 vision. CUSTOM LASEK (with an "E") which stands for laser epithelial keratomileusis is a procedure in which a laser beam is applied directly to the eye's outer surface to reshape the cornea and perform laser vision correction. The ophthalmologist lifts the extremely thin epithelial layer on the surface of the eye; then applies the laser beam and places the epithelial layer back on the eye. Epi-LASIK is a laser vision correction procedure that is sort of a cross between LASIK and LASEK but differs in a few key areas. The difference with Epi-LASIK is that the ophthalmologist uses a blunt, plastic blade instead of a finer blade and does not use alcohol. Epi-LASIK is ideal for people with lower myopia and flatter/thinner corneas. Also, it is great for those who have professions or hobbies that increase the chance of being hit in the eye (such as soldiers, police officers, boxers, and sports enthusiasts) who may find Epi-LASIK safer than LASIK because there's no risk of the flap being dislodged. Following your eye examination, Dr. Giliberti will recommend the procedure that is right for you. Laser Vision Correction at Giliberti Eye & Laser is very affordable and we offer patient financing.
