About Dry Eye / LipiFlow®

If artificial tears provide only temporary relief and your eyes feel constantly irritated, gritty, or tired — you may have meibomian gland dysfunction, the root cause of most chronic dry eye. LipiFlow® can restore normal gland function and provide lasting relief.

Dry eye disease affects more than 16 million Americans and is one of the most common — and most under-treated — conditions in eye care. At Giliberti Eye & Laser Center, we take a diagnostic-first approach: using LipiView® II meibomian gland imaging, tear osmolarity testing, and ocular surface staining to identify the exact cause of your dry eye before recommending treatment. For meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) — the leading cause of evaporative dry eye — we offer LipiFlow® Thermal Pulsation, the only FDA-cleared device that treats the root cause of MGD with a single in-office treatment.

Key Benefits

  • LipiFlow® — FDA-cleared thermal pulsation for MGD
  • LipiView® II gland imaging to diagnose before treating
  • Tear osmolarity testing (TearLab®)
  • Omega-3 and nutritional counseling
  • Prescription anti-inflammatory drops (Restasis®, Xiidra®, Cequa®)
  • Punctal plugs for tear retention when appropriate

What to Expect

Your Journey to Better Vision

01

Dry Eye Evaluation

We perform a comprehensive dry eye workup: LipiView® II gland imaging shows the health of your meibomian glands; TearLab® measures tear osmolarity; and slit-lamp examination assesses the ocular surface.

02

Identifying Your Dry Eye Type

Aqueous-deficient dry eye (not enough tears) and evaporative dry eye (poor tear quality from MGD) require different treatments. Accurate diagnosis leads to effective therapy.

03

LipiFlow® Treatment

A sterile activator is placed on each eye. Over 12 minutes, precise controlled heat and gentle pressure clear blocked meibomian glands — restoring natural oil flow to the tear film.

04

Follow-Up & Maintenance

Most patients notice improvement within 2–4 weeks; full effect at 3 months. We recommend annual LipiFlow® treatments and ongoing supportive therapy for best long-term outcomes.
