About Comprehensive Eye Exams

Most people see an eye doctor only when something seems wrong. But the conditions that cause the most vision loss — glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease — typically have no symptoms until significant damage has already occurred. Annual exams are preventive care, not just vision checks.

A comprehensive eye examination at Giliberti Eye & Laser Center is far more than an updated glasses prescription. Our ophthalmologists perform a full ocular health evaluation using slit-lamp biomicroscopy, dilated fundus examination, intraocular pressure measurement, visual field testing, and OCT imaging when indicated. Many sight-threatening conditions — glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and others — are silent in their early stages. A thorough annual exam is the most reliable way to detect them before they cause permanent damage.

Key Benefits

  • Full refractive assessment for updated glasses/contact lens prescription
  • Intraocular pressure screening for glaucoma
  • Dilated fundus exam for retina, optic nerve, and macula evaluation
  • Slit-lamp exam for cornea, lens, and anterior segment
  • OCT imaging when clinically indicated
  • Diabetic and hypertensive retinopathy screening

Refraction & Visual Acuity

We measure your current prescription with a phoropter and determine your best-corrected visual acuity. Contact lens wearers receive a separate fitting evaluation.

Anterior & Posterior Segment Exam

Slit-lamp examination of the cornea, iris, and lens. After dilation, the retina, optic nerve, macula, and blood vessels are examined in detail.
