About Glaucoma Treatment

Glaucoma is the leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide. The good news: when detected early and properly managed, the vast majority of patients retain their functional vision for life. Routine screening is the single most important step you can take.

Glaucoma is called the "silent thief of sight" — it typically causes no pain and no symptoms until significant, irreversible vision loss has already occurred. At Giliberti Eye & Laser Center, we use advanced diagnostic technology including optical coherence tomography (OCT), visual field testing, and pachymetry to detect glaucoma at its earliest stages. Our comprehensive management plans include medications, laser therapy (SLT), and surgical interventions as needed — all coordinated under the expert guidance of our board-certified ophthalmologists.

Key Benefits

  • Advanced OCT imaging for early nerve fiber layer detection
  • Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT) — a gentle, effective laser option
  • Comprehensive medication management
  • Surgical options when needed (trabeculectomy, tube shunts)
  • Regular monitoring to track disease progression
  • Patient education and personalized care plans

What to Expect

Your Journey to Better Vision

01

Comprehensive Glaucoma Evaluation

Intraocular pressure measurement, optic nerve imaging with OCT, visual field testing, gonioscopy (angle examination), and corneal pachymetry to stage the disease accurately.

02

Individualized Treatment Plan

Mild-to-moderate glaucoma is often managed with daily eye drops that lower IOP. We work with you to find the regimen that's effective and fits your lifestyle.

03

Laser Therapy (SLT)

Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty uses a gentle, targeted laser to improve fluid drainage from the eye. It's performed in-office, takes minutes, and can reduce or eliminate the need for drops in many patients.

04

Ongoing Monitoring

Glaucoma requires lifelong management. We schedule regular follow-up visits to monitor nerve health, visual fields, and pressure — adjusting treatment as needed to keep you stable.
